Cambo Estate | GARDENS and WOODLANDS | Garden Volunteers

Garden volunteers

Ivy clearing and bonfire days

Sundays – usually during the winter months

Pigs are being used in different locations around the estate to clear the ivy which smothers the snowdrops and threatens the trees.  After the pigs have done their best, we need people-power to cut the ivy at the base of the trees, pull up the remaining strands of ivy and make sure the area is clear for re-planting with trees and wild flowers suitable for woodlands.

From time to time during the winter months we organise days, usually a Saturday or Sunday, to help with the ivy and bonfires.  If this is of interest, please contact us and we will contact you with the next date.

Gloves, tools and refreshments provided.

Conservation weekends for Groups

These are organised by the Scottish Section of the BTCV (British Trust for Conservation Volunteers) and are usually at weekends in autumn or spring  -
Contact 0131 332 8700 or 01786 479697 for further information.

We tentatively looked for volunteers several years ago and have been surprised at the reponse.  So much so that we now welcome them regularly and are immensely grateful for all the good work that they do.

Volunteers at Cambo are obviously of considerable benefit to us and the upkeep of the garden, but we know that the benefits are not just one-sided, as feedback from those who have already enjoyed the experience indicates that skills are learned and much pleasure had. Because of the nature of tasks involved it is necessary that volunteers are reasonably fit and able to carry out usual garden tasks.

WWOOF

WWOOF World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms / Willing Workers on Organic Farms

WWOOF organisations are organic farms and locations which are in keeping the general ethic or respect for the environment and the idea of an exchange of knowledge and expertise, food and accommodation in exchange for help on a voluntary basis.  Volunteers work for a minimum of two weeks and work a 40 hour week in exchange for accommodation and keep.  To date Wwoofers at Cambo have helped with various aspects of the snowdrop business and have created a new woodland path.
