The planting of Cambo walled garden is divided into 9 major themes, each of which has its own distinctive personality and palette of plants.
These themes may be:
Habitat based e.g Tall Grass Prairie, Short Grass Prairie, Moist & Woodland
Centred around different groups of plants e.g. Annuals, Ornamental Potager
Functional e.g. Cut Flowers
Based on a style of aesthetic considerations e.g. Our traditional borders
We find that designing the garden like this allows us to group the plants in a more meaningful way in terms of appearance i.e. looking good together, and maintenance requirements and also to achieve distinctly different areas each with its own character, keying in and taking our cues from the way plants combine with each other in nature.
