Freewheeling textile artists

About Freewheeling
Freewheeling are a group of textile artists working in the medium of quilting.  They are all enthusiastic about contemporary artwork, especially as it applies to quilting, and are keen to extend the appreciation of modern art quilting in the eyes and minds of the general public in the hope that textile art will gradually come to be seen as a valid art form in the same company as painting and sculpture.

The group has been working together for several years with little change to its line-up.  Individual members have had success in competition, and it is the group’s aim to extend their exhibiting remit to bring their work to as wide a section of the public as possible.

Freewheeling would be delighted to consider proposals for exhibitions.  If the event is planned well ahead, they would be happy to pay several visits to the venue, and, if appropriate, they would be happy to design and produce some pieces specific to the venue.  Individual members of Freewheeling are also available for commissions.  Please address all enquiries in the first instance to Sheila Dalgleish at sheila@sdalgleish.co.uk.

The Brief for Cambo
These pieces were designed during a class taught by Pat Archibald.  After a fruitful field trip to Cambo in February 2007, everyone was well armed with digital photographs of the estate and of lots of snowdrops, so it was decided that this could be used as an exercise in the digital manipulation of photographs and their subsequent application to fabric.  After much experimentation, some members of the group used elements of their digital printing in their artwork, and others used them as a stimulus for their final design.  The challenge was to produce one small piece (A3), which could be mounted on a board, and one long thin piece.  These were the only constraints; otherwise it was just down to experimentation and imagination on the part of each member of the group.
